A common saying is that “a picture is worth a 1000 words.” This axiom is just as true for formal documents as it is for more casual pieces.

Use diagrams to visually represent complex information at a glance. Be sure to introduce the diagram in the text and place the diagram near the information it accompanies. Also, be sure to leave some “white space” before and after diagrams to give your readers’ eyes a chance to focus on the image instead of the surrounding text.
