Including images or files in questions

As you create questions for tests or surveys, you can include images as well as other types of files. For example, in a Multiple Choice question about clouds, each possible answer could be an image of a different cloud type. You could also include an image of a cloud in the question itself and then ask students to identify the type.

The two most common graphics file formats on the web are GIF and JPEG (pronounced jay-peg). You can display images in either of these formats in your questions. If your images are in another format, such as a bitmap (BMP), use a graphics program to convert them to GIFs or JPEGs.

You can include other types of files in your questions besides images. To do so, you create a link to the file. Remember, however, that the file must be in a format the students can open. They need Microsoft Word on their computers, for example, to open a Word file. If you link to a file, a copy of the file is stored with the course.

You can also include URL hyperlinks in your questions. When students click one of these links, the web page associated with that URL opens in their browsers. They can then view whatever images and text are on that page (or other pages on the web site) as they complete the question.

To add images, files, or URL links to your questions, you create your test or survey using the advanced options.
