CourseCompass provides a structured environment in which you can create and modify courses. In many cases, the procedures you perform to accomplish a task are the same regardless of the type of learning unit, folder, or item with which you are working.
The topics in this book include the steps you perform repeatedly as you build and enhance course material in CourseCompass:
Adding a folder, learning unit, or item
Modifying a folder, learning unit, or item
Removing a folder, learning unit, or item
Adding an item to a folder or learning unit
Changing the order in which folders, learning units, and items appear
Each discrete piece of content is stored as an item. In most cases, you can add folders or learning units in which to store items. You must add the folder or learning unit before you add any items to it. You can also place folders within folders (but not within learning units).
A folder is a container in which you can group multiple items. For example, you can create folders to store items of the same type, items that together make up an assignment, or items submitted by individual students.
A learning unit is a set of course items and files you want to present to students as a group. You can allow students to explore these items at will, or you can specify a linear progression through them.
An item is any discrete piece of information stored by CourseCompass. Whether you are working with a syllabus, a course project, lecture notes, or an assessment, you are working with an item. You can add files, called attachments, to items to provide content. You can also add an item to a folder, or you can add an item to a learning unit.
